Now we know that crypto uses a decentralised system which frees it from the hierarchal structure of power for recording transactions and issuing new units through a process called as mining. All the math enthusiasts benefit here since new coins are generated by solving complex mathematical problems. You must have come across words like Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, Dodge coin, NFTs, Tether and PolkaDots etc.

These are all substitutes to online payment which uses encryption algorithms; and in order to use cryptocurrency you must have a wallet which is able to store your keys and access your coins. Wallets consist of public key and private key (online (web), mobile, desktop, hardware, and paper wallets.) for signing to your cryptocurrency transactions.

The bitcoin network relies on a block-chain which is a digital ledger or collection of accounts which facilitates recording of transactions which is set in the stone and cannot be changed over time. Confirmed transactions are collected in the block chain and the block of the bitcoin always consists of a magic number, block size, block header & transaction counter.

Yes, I know this is getting very nerdy, but we need to be able to wrap our heads around these terms.

Each block is limited to 1MB and must contain data (value 0xD9B4BEF9) which can be verified by the network to be validated and adjoined to the block chain. Block header is made up of 6 components adding to an 80-byte field namely:

Femtech is a new and rapidly growing industry that focuses on producing technologies that address female health. Think about your period trackers on your phone, pregnancy apps, and various emerging technologies that have revolutionized the detection of breast cancers.

Companies have experienced exponential growth both in investment, size of the company, and search volume. You may know some Femtech companies such as Womeness, Kindbody, and Natural Cycles, who create technology around reproductive health, menopause, and fertility.

Despite 50% of the world benefiting from these technologies it was only in 2016 that the term was coined by Ida Tin, the founder of Clue- The period tracking app. Tech by default caters to men and women are seen as other, which is why iPhones don’t fit in women’s hands, women are more likely to die of heart attacks and car crashes.

Even tech products such as breast pumps of which women are the sole users aren’t designed with women in mind making them uncomfortable and clunky to use. It’s absolutely astonishing when you think about it.

Femtech projects are also harder to get funded, with a lot of male investors not seeing the benefit of products simply because they don’t fit into their lives.

Part of the problem with any new emerging industry is that there isn’t enough awareness and exposure. It’s necessary to demystify these concepts because they are important for improving the lives of millions of women.

What is Femtech?

Femtech is the all-encompassing term for emerging technologies and solutions which improves healthcare and female-specific conditions. This includes maternal health, menstrual health, pelvic and sexual health, fertility, menopause, and contraception, as well as a number of general health conditions that affect women disproportionately or differently (such as osteoporosis or cardiovascular disease).

Why is the Femtech Sector Important to Closing the Gender Data Gap?

The gender data gap is a lack of knowledge or research on how gender affects the world we live in. In other words companies, governments, scientists and academics are not collecting data on women leading to massive gaps in knowledge.

This affects our lives in many ways, from the products we use to the risks we encounter when going about our daily lives. The Femtech industry is tackling problems with women’s health specifically and therefore can have a massive impact on the way we collect data that is gender specific.

Women are more from to suffer from misdiagnosis, long-term health problems, cardiovascular disease going untreated, and the wrong dosage of drugs all because there is a lack of data when it comes to studying women’s health conditions.

Women’s bodies are seen as complicated hormonal anomalies. We discounted and excluded from data because it is assumed that women’s bodies are just scaled-down versions of men’s bodies.

How can this happen you may ask? Mainly because doctors, scientists, and the powers that be don’t see it as important to collect sex-segregated data when testing drugs and doing research on patients. Sometimes it is actively excluded despite the fact it could contain rich insights into diseases and the female body. There have been a number of reviews conducted that exposed the routine failure to either collect data based on sex and gender or fail to explain the decision to exclude this data.

Femtech is actively listening to women. Listening to the symptoms, listening to their worries, and their needs. It is creating products and technologies that aren’t based on the average 5ft10 white male. 

What can Femtech do for Mental Health?

With women taking up to three times more domestic work and unpaid care duties than their male counterparts, in addition to their full-time jobs, it’s no wonder they are the main suffers of mental health issues.

Mental health is a multifaceted issue and cannot just be blamed on the division of domestic duties alone. For example, there is evidence to suggest that women’s health problems are more likely to be misdiagnosed as mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. Women are also more likely to be diagnosed with psychosomatic conditions than men.

Femtech’s solution to bettering the mental health of women is by developing apps that give women easier access to internet-based therapies. There are a lot of apps like this on the market today, all catering to different demographics. Internet-based therapies allow women to address their mental health problems in the comfort of their own homes.

When domestic duties and unpaid care work gets in the way of attaining or attending therapies, mental health apps that specifically cater to women allow them to do internet-based therapy from the comfort of their home.

How is Femtech evolving the NHS?

Although Femtech is in its earliest stages of development, there is still a lot of potential. The NHS is adopting digital health apps and innovations to help improve women’s health care.

Squeezy is an app adopted by the NHS to help with pelvic floor exercises and routines. Pelvic floor muscle training exercises can help strengthen the muscles under the uterus, bladder, and large intestine. Although pelvic floor exercises can help both men and women with problems with urine leakage, the main suffers are pregnant women or women who have given birth. Squeezy helps with routines and exercise which lessens the symptoms.

Peppy is also an app that has been embraced by the NHS to help with women’s mental health. Companies can obtain it for their employee which is then free for them to use to help with the pressures of mental health, sexual harassment, and trauma.

The Future of Femtech.

In conclusion, Femtech has the potential to be life for changing for women because it means that our concerns and health problems are being listened to. It changes the way in which data collect and account for changes in sex and gender. We are seen as hormonal anomalies but as worthy customers and patients who would benefit greatly from these advancements.

Is Femtech by any means the solution to everything moving forward? Of course not. However, in a world in which reproductive rights are still not a concrete given, it gives back a certain amount of autonomy.

Best time to visit Croatia

To have the best trip of your life in Croatia you must first know the right time to visit so you don’t rack up your credit card.

Going during popular summer times such as June-August is great and fun, but your spending will be much higher. This is why one of the best times to go is during the end of August or beginning of September. The water is still warm enough to enjoy, rainy days are few and far between, and with less people visiting you’ll find it much more enjoyable. Also, restaurants, bars, and clubs are still open. Their nightlife is an experience you don’t want to miss out on. 

Make sure to book your flight and stay at least 3-4 months in advance and save hundreds of dollars. If you do this you could be spending less than 100 pounds for a roundtrip flight. Also the most popular way to travel throughout Croatia’s cities and islands is via ferry. They are budget friendly and even more cost effective if you book your ferry trip in advance and willing to take the slower ferries. However, do keep in mind some routes are only seasonal so if you travel past September you may not find a ferry that can take you to certain islands. 

Where to go in Croatia

Do a little research to see what cities you want to visit as Croatia has many cities and islands to visit. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan then Dubrovnik may be the city for you. If you can only visit Croatia on a budget then I recommend visiting Split and Hvar. Buy your plane ticket at least 3 months in advance and you’ll be surprised by how little the plane ticket is. Also you’ll be able to visit multiple other islands in between this main city and popular island, truly making the most out of this inexpensive trip.

What to do in Split

Split is the second largest city in the country and its old city is filled with many historic sites.

The old city will be the main area to explore when visiting this city. Its white cobble-stoned streets, live music and maze-like layout will fully immerse you into the city and its culture. Exploring during the day and night show different versions of Split and are both highly recommended. During the day it’s great to visit the different shops full of artists and souvenirs.

There are many hidden restaurants throughout the streets that it will feel almost impossible to choose. This may seem like a weird recommendation but you have to eat at the Mexican restaurant To Je Tako. This restaurant had the best tacos and margaritas I’ve ever had (and I’ve been to Mexico) all within a reasonable price. It is a small restaurant with no option to reserve online so I suggest going during a not so busy time and be prepared to queue. Another great restaurant to go to would be Fig. They offer an international menu and are also located in Hvar, but their restaurant in Split is a prime spot to experience during the nighttime with their hidden courtyard and candle light setup. 

What to do in Hvar

Hvar is an island off the coast of Croatia and has become a popular travel spot for its food, beach clubs, and overall experiences. The minute you get off the ferry you will be in awe of Hvar’s beauty. The port is within the city centre so once you step off you will see many restaurants, bars, and the landscape of the island. Stay within the city centre as everything is walkable, just be prepared to climb many stairs.

When looking at Airbnb’s everything you will most stays are very well priced. Make sure to get a stay with a kitchen. You’ll save a lot of money by going to the local supermarkets for most meals and making snacks to bring while swimming or exploring. If you have room in your budget then do treat yourself with meals or drinks out in the city centre. The atmosphere is great and you’ll never regret grabbing a glass of wine on a warm sunny day. 

If you are staying somewhere with a kitchen, it is preferable to visit the neighbourhood grocery for fresh ingredients to cook with. The supermarkets are great places to find reasonably priced fruit or snacks to eat while sitting by the water or exploring the island.

Experiences in Hvar

The island offers many great beach clubs to experience while lounging in the sun and again this is an experience anyone who visits must experience. Hula Hula is an amazing beach club to go to as the beach chairs are only 20 euros with an amazing spot right on the water. You can essentially jump in right from your chair into the clearest water ever seen.

Stay till sunset and you will get the best view of the sunset on the island and depending on the night you can stay pass sunset for a Mamma Mia dance party you won’t want to miss. 

While we’re on the subject of dance parties another beach club you absolutely have to experience is Carpe Diem Beach Club. It is one of the best clubbing experiences with famous guests, unique performances and surprises. Truly a night you wouldn’t forget, but be aware the drinks are expensive so maybe go out before and only have a couple at Carpe Diem.

Remember you’re on a budget and don’t want to spend your entire holiday money on this one night because trust me you could if you get carried away. And the most important thing: dress to impress. 

Day Trips

Don’t worry Hvar has more to offer than partying.

If you’re looking more for adventure then don’t skip the blue and green cave tours. You can find these tours just by googling them or going on Airbnb experiences for Hvar and finding boat tours to go on. Depending on which tour you purchase it can be anywhere from 50 to 100 euros and lunch can be provided. If it’s not, stop by the store and grab some food and drinks for the day. Again don’t worry the supermarkets won’t break the bank. During your boat tour you will stop at famous caves known as the Green and Blue Cave.

You can swim throughout the Green Cave and once you look underwater you will see an emerald light throughout the water. What makes this experience even better? This cave is located on the island of Vis, where Mamma Mia 2 was filmed. So if you’re a big Mamma Mia fan like me then I highly recommend exploring the island Vis before or after visiting the Green Cave. I’m sure you’ll find some familiar spots. 

The best moment of your tour, the Blue Cave. Off the coast of Vis, this is a well-known cave throughout the world. You can only get to the cave through a very narrow hole in the wall which is only accessible by a small boat. Once you get into the cave you’ll find everything surrounded by this extraordinary blue light, created from sunlight reflecting off the cave’s white floor and bouncing off its limestone rock walls. If you’re lucky you’ll get a cool guide who will let you steer the boat just for a little like ours did. 

Another spot you should absolutely see is the most beautiful beach in the world, Stiniva Beach. This is a hidden beach that you can only get to by swimming or hiking. The boat should stop by as close as they can when then you’ll jump off and swim through an opening to get to shore. Once you get to the pebbled beach you’ll be in awe of the water, high cliffs, and peacefulness of the secret beach. Enjoy a good sun bath before heading back to the boat to continue on your tour, but don’t fall asleep or you may get left behind like some groups almost did. 

Exploring the island

If you find yourself needing a break after visiting the caves and swimming through the sea, then visit Fortica Fortress. Located on Hvar it’s easy to get to, besides the stairs but we’ll take that over spending money on a taxi, and it is only 7 euros to enter. From there you’ll find breathtaking views of Hvar and the surrounding islands. You won’t be able to bring your own alcoholic drinks, but pack yourself food with some soft drinks and have lunch with an unforgettable view for the day.

The rapper now known as Central Cee, was born and raised in Shepherds Bush to a Gunanyan father and an Irish mother. Cee was given the birth name Oakley Neil Caesar on the 4th of June 1998. Growing up Cee recalls his Father playing him a mixture of music genres such as Hiphop, Reggae and dancehall. Cee was able to complete school, but it wasn’t easy due to life circumstances as well as Cee admitting to acting out a lot and having behavioural issues due to his temper. Central Cee has been putting out music since he was 14, but it wasn’t until the Covid-19, pandemic, the hardest time in music, that Cee found his voice. 

How Central Cee became the UKs biggest rapper at 23

So how did a 22 year old rapper go from an unknown to the biggest rapper in the UK? When looking into the rise of Cee, it is clear that he is not only a rapper but understands that much like anything in the world the music industry works formulaic. Cee studied the industry, picked up a trending music style, being “Drill”, one of the most trending genres in UK music in terms of consumer behaviour during the pandemic. What Cee did that was genius, was that he capitalised on a trending musical style however instead of exclusively rapping about criminal activities and violence Cee strategically discusses more relatable topics to normal society in comparison to other drill rappers,  in order to reach a wider audience. This allowed Cee to tap into a wider audience while still maintaining the drill sound that is trending. By making the trending sound relatable to everyone Cee left the door open for fans to come based on their own terms.

Mixtape Marketing Plan

Besides capitalising on a trending musical style, Cee’s marketing as an independent artist for his first mixtape “Wild West ” was massively succesful and once again displayed Cee’s knowledge of the music industry as well as formulas that work. In order to make the mixtape stand out, the cover art was shot against an orange backdrop, the whole album roll out would follow this orange branding being associated with both the mixtape and Cee. The smartest part of the mixtape drop was having the album be a partnership with already established UK brand “Trapstar” who also originate from Shepherds Bush, Trapstar has been around since 2008 and have built a crazy consumer base particularly within the rap community. The trapstar partnership meant that mixtape sales were also attached to the sale of merchandise of the “Trapstar x Wild West”, Cee would receive 2 Unit sales of the mixtape per article of clothing purchased as each article of merchandise came with both a physical and digital copy of the mixtape. This meant that Cee was not only able to boost his career in terms of statistics but also that fans of the brand trapstar would purchase merchandise as a fan of trapstar but as they have a free mixtape including they’re likely to give the music a chance especially with a brand like “Trapstar” backing the music. Central Cee’s brand awareness as well as concurrent album sales increasing as a result of the drop, lead him to the UK top 100 Chart for the first time with his mixtape debuting at number 2 independently with no features. Cee’s marketing mind has always been his greatest strength, Cee knew straight after “Wild West” he would have to follow up with something much bigger and much better both musically and marketing campaign wise. Cee has always introduced elements of american style of rappers into his own brand, one of these elements being basketball and specifically the number 23, Cee was turning 23 and decided to name the following mixtape 23 after Michael Jordan’s signature basketball jersey as well as creating as having a huge 23 chain custom made for himself which was worn throughout all of the mixtapes promo and roll out. The roll out was a lot easier for Cee the second time around as he had gained a lot of access to both resources as well as money. The colour that was chosen was Yellow, an even brighter colour then orange but it wasn’t actually the colour that was the most eye-catching part of the cover art, it was a mixture of the chain, the colour, and a shirtless Central Cee displaying his tattoos from neck to waist. Also the centre of the album art displays Cee’s large torso tattoo of trapstar in their signature font, this shock value as well as tactical use of simple branding techniques all helped Cee sneak his way to the top of the music industry. 23 included several tracks that were made for the purpose of both going tik tok viral to market them as well as made for a female audience, with songs such as “obsessed with you” which has a music video shot by Cee himself in a vlog style road trip date with a women being able to accumulate nearly 40 million views in 5 months on youtube. Cee seems to be dropping a music video for every song continuing to sport the colour yellow and associate it with every video in some way on 23 with every video averaging around 10 million views every 2 months.

Although it may seem that Cee somewhat appeared overnight as a rapper, this was simply not the case and in fact the road was very long for Cee and took a good knowledge of building a brand and a nearly 10 year wait for Cee to finally see his work turn successful to quote Central Cee’s advice to his younger brothers on the song Lil bro “Shortcuts where? Take the stairs, no handouts, no taking lifts”. The mixtape 23 has received mainstream support from  artists such as Drake as well as ED Sheeran, with Cee being featured on Sheeran’s latest project.
